01:49 pm - I Never Would Have Got Here If I Followed My Heart
So. Mon ami potatobread is having a fairly rough go of it at the moment. There isn't much I can do from this far away except this:

Picked Up My Guitar And Made A Chord: A Cheer Up Christine Mix

1. The Boy Least Likely To - I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star
2. The Islands - Jogging Gorgeous Summer
3. Danny Michel - Tennessee Tobacco
4. Boats - Classic Rock Weekend
5. Beulah - If We Can Land A Man On The Moon, Surely I Can Win Your Heart...
6. Of Montreal - Wraith Pinned To The Mist And Other Games
7. The Weakerthans - Tournament Of Hearts
8. Joel Plaskett - Nowhere With You
9. The Bees - Chicken Payback
10. The Ataris - Boys of Summer [Don Henley cover]
11. Bright Eyes - Another Travelin' Song
12. The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice?
13. The Shins - We Will Become Silhouettes [The Postal Service cover]
14. The Postal Service - Clark Gable
15. Luke Doucet - The Lovecats [The Cure cover]
16. The Ditty Bops - Sister Kate
17. Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
18. Junior Senior - Shake Me Baby
19. The Magnetic Fields - I'm Sorry I Love You
20. Sam Cooke - Sugar Dumpling
21. LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends
22. Peter Bjorn And John - Young Folks

These are all super-duper-happy-fun-pop songs that never fail to make you smile, no matter how miserable life feels at the moment. Enjoy: yousendit links part one and part two.

PS: Muxtape is not really that much fun, what with its twelve song limit and whatnot. Maybe soon...

Nice mix. I am sure they will love it. :)

I am glad I finally found someone else who likes Bright Eyes. :) The only thing I would complain about is that I am not a fan of Joel Plaskett. :P

I know! I don't know what it is about Bright Eyes, but they are the anti-indie-indie-group... or something. Everyone hates them, but pffft.

Heh, and Joel has a dear place in my heart as an old school Thrush Hermit fan. I used to run their website when they were still around [and after their demise]. That song is just super-happy and giddy, though.

And, because of this, I HAD to go listen to Bright Eyes.

I just don't get what is with the resistance I get from Bright Eyes. They are a very different sound but isn't that what the indie scene prides itself on? :P

As a side note, know who got me into Bright Eyes (Just after "Lifted..." came out)? My dad. :P He heard a few of their songs and went out and bought their CD. I tried to steal it from him but he wouldn't let me. HAD to go buy my own.

I don't blame you for liking Joel. I just can't seem to love him. But heck, I still have Dance Mix '94 on heavy rotation so I am not a good judge of good. ;)

Hahhahaha the indie scene with different sounds??? realllly?

Oh my soul, that's adorable that your dad got you into them! Aww!

I don't know. To be honest, Joel's newer stuff doesn't really grab me like it used to. I still adore his first couple of albums though, when he still seemed to be influenced by his Thrush Hermit ways.

ALSO! How do you feel about re-enacting this with me on the dance floor, huh? Huh? ::

My gawd David Tennant is hot. I haven't had such a mad crush on anyone famous in YEARS. It's ridiculous! I just love nerds apparently. Well, nerds and pretty boys. Throw an accent in there...and...sigh.

And I would be honoured to re-enact that with you. It is a song that should be played at Mod club so maybe someday. :)

Also, we need to see "Casanova" - David Tennant + Russel T. Davies + Peter O'Toole? Hello!

Mmm nerdy+glasses+pretty+accent=yum.

YES! You are so my hero for agreeing! And they HAVE been known to play that song at mod club, so yes. Also, this:

.... how obviously is it that I have been nerding out about David Tennant dancing?

both the bright eyes song and the lcd soundsystem song make me feel down, haha. all bright eyes does that to me but i listen anyway. and even though i love that lcd soundsystem so much, it induces crippling depression for some reason haha.

Oh, I have to agree on both of those, really. Bright Eyes always makes me pretty sad, too, but at least the tune of that song is pretty upbeat [or, upbeat as far as Bright Eyes goes]. And that LCD Soundsystem song is totally bittersweet and melancholy. I adore it but it makes me so sad at the same time. Oh, pop songs, what you do to me!

HOW HIGH FIDELITY. haha.

Connor is just a bipolar alcoholic. ;)

I actually think Bright Eyes has two modes; really hopeful and really depressed. Way too many songs of theirs are upbeat and they have a very undeserved "emo" brand. "Bowl of Oranges" is one of the most outright hopeful songs there is. It verges on manic in some ways. I think most of his songs are about how things may suck right now but will be better ("Easy/Lucky/Free"). He also writes some really nice, at least I think, love songs like "First Day of My Life." Sweet little song.

Also, I am with Jess. I love songs that are beautifully depressing. Jess and I have talked about Plecebo before but I also love Damien Rice's "9 Crimes."

But that is just my two cents about that...

I agree! Manic-depressive is the perfect way to describe his music. 'First Day Of My Life' is definitely one of the sweetest, most adorable love songs. I don't 'get' what emo is anyway...

YES! Damien Rice, Cannonball, anything. I totally forgot about our Placebo conversation, too. Totally.

You are AMAZING! I'm downloading it right now, but from the track listing, a bunch of the artists are ones I just started getting into (Ditty Bops! Patrick Wolf!) or I'm sure that I'll like. :o)

PS She sent me a text message not ten minutes ago acting like nothing had happened. Whatever, I'm going to watch Star Wars!

Hooray! I'm glad you like it. I wasn't really going for particular bands or artists to introduce you to, but really just a general happy-go-lucky and upbeat tunes theme. I hope it does the trick.

Star Wars is much better company, obviously!
