Students!
Hello my fellow student-y minded friends. They are offering a wonderful course at Carleton this summer [May-June], but they are currently just shy of enough people being enrolled for it to run. Hence, consider this a somewhat desperate [ha ha] plea for anyone looking to take a summer course. It's a third year women's studies course on activism. The prof is awesome and the reading list makes it look like it will be a barrel of monkeys.

Edit: Got the prof to email me the actual description again:

WOMN 3003 A: Selected Topics on Gender and Women's Studies: ˜Third Wave Feminisms: Monday and Wednesday, 18:05 – 20:55. This seminar explores feminist thought and action which is being called third wave feminism. We will examine readings and cultural products – films, videos, music, ‘zines, websites, etc. – to interrogate what this label means, and how theories and practices intersect in third wave feminism. Students will explore underlying concepts of third wave including generational age, ideological position and historical moment. The course is structured around theory and writings from anthologies including Listen Up, To Be Real, Colonize This!, Manifesta, Third Wave Agenda, Catching A Wave and Turbo Chicks, as well as from key articles that make connections to past feminist movements.

Please pass on to anyone who may be interested. Please!

remind me why we haven't met?

let's go get drunk and roll around naked on your boyfriend's lawn.

or your ex-boyfriend - just as offensive, and less chance of me getting beaten up.

.... I don't know why we haven't met yet, but it seems very, very wrong that is has not happened yet. ESPECIALLY after that comment. I vote for the ex-boyfriend aspect, though, cause really? Who has a boyfriend anymore? Not me. Overrated, horribly so.

Although.... beating up... could be hot... tempting... fake it?

Deal! Where are we drinking?

is there a good pub near your ex's place?
(I don't want to stumble too far before getting naked)

Well, I suppose it depends which one. Which boy, that is. But good call, definitely. A long walk home is not a good plan when there's nakedness to be had in the not-too-distant future. Pleasure-delaying only works for so long...

if i had money i'd sign up for it so it would happen, then drop the course once it started. i'm helpful like that in a pretend world.

... that is a pretty genius idea.... I wonder if I could con someone else into doing that? I guess they would have to keep the class running if it had already started, right? that's why I love my wifey; so smart!

I know! I'm kind of ticked at the moment. I can't seem to find the email with the description, but the reading list involves 'Manifesta,' which is a stellar third wave book. Also: zines and the ilk. Really, just a super fun course. Are you in Ottawa for the summer? Audit it with me haha.

Kudos to your prof for making that course description sound thoroughly sinister. ^^

Sinister, really? Hmm. Maybe I'm just too nerdy about it to realize it haha.

Interrogation? Ideological positioning? Multiple Waves (invasions)? Agendas? That's the stuff of alien plots that is! Obviously your teacher is a Rutan in disguise! ;P

Hahahaha possibly. They're all pretty academic-speak, obviously, so I suppose it's less ominous to me... but when you put it that way....

Hehe, I suppose it depends on what you study, my best academic marks came from a course where we studied Japan's politics as it was romping across Asia in the name of "Liberation" and "Asian Brotherhood". My actual field of study was fictional literature. All the same terms get used in both cases, though their application varies from case to case of course. ^_^ When you're talking entertainment though it's easy to find the dark side of any political ideology, seemingly helpful service, or commonly accepted part of society. Consider what the Doctor points out about a supposedly helpful public service of wheelchair access ramps when he called Nasa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVW_azWw6uo

Haha I adore how everything returns full circle to Doctor Who.... or at least can be somehow related. And it certainly varies from case to case. I.e.: battery in engineering versus battery in social sciences. Fuel cell, what?

I don't know. Why aren't you in Ottawa? hahah. Just kidding. It would be stellar if you were, though. Best course ever, quite possibly.
