Am I the only one slightly disturbed by the message Rihanna [or however the hex you spell her name] is sending out to young women in battered/abusive relationships? Seriously. doubleyouteeeff.

oh that's what that whole thing is about. I try not to pay attention to all the bad crap in the news. It's sad though. :(
Hey, are you on facebook? :)

As the third person in this thread who is oblivious to such things, tell me what the news story told you! I am curious.

I never thought about any sort of message she is sending to anyone, but I am disturbed by two things, the news reports that all mention Chris Brown is 19, but never mention her age (why), and the fact that she is going back to the asshole.

Ohh I didn't even pick up on the age factor -- good point. & I was pretty much referring to your second fact, that she is going back to him. What kind of message does that send to other women in abusive relationships? If Rihanna can take it, so should I? Eeeeeep!

Oprah as well as all the ladies from the view are disturbed as well. Not that I'm not. Just sayin. Why aren't you watching daytime tv, geez? I am getting way caught up on all the pop culture I've been missing the past 2.5 years. Start watching TMZ (I think that's what it's called) and your brain will explode.

Oh! When I called you back last night I could barely hear anything so I hung up and I didn't hear back from you and I was at kristen's place with a bunch of folk til late so I didn't try calling again. Hope the cottage isn't too painful!

xoxo

Well, as much as I hate those people, at least they are on board with the fucked-upness of the situation. Ugh. Also, I am frightened enough just by the description of this TMZ you speak of.

Oh and no worries about the phone. I think the phone I was on was dying anyway haha.

Yea, TMZ is basically the paparazzi. They have more celeb video and stories than you'd ever want to have at your mouse finger, and it can be tempting. I found myself there once... *click click click oooooooo click click...*. I can see why it's such a sick pleasure: up-to-the-second celeb gossip.

Yea, it's an almost surreal telling of Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man"... to look past his shortcoming and failings even if he beats the living shit out of you. We're assuming they've not seen some sort of relationship counselor, and that he's not seen someone to deal with his anger issues. If he and they have not, then what is she still doing with him?!?!

No one should condone that sort of behavior, privately or publicly, if we are to trust the officer's reports on the scene (slamming her head and punching her all around the car and threatening to kill her). And she has, at least publicly. It sends the wrong message to women, especially [young] black women.

Physical violence does not belong in any relationship! doubleyouteeeff, indeed.

I just hope Chris Brown comes out and says how wrong this was. But we'll have to wait for a conviction for that to happen, if at all. ugh.

Ohhh thank you. That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Even as you say, assuming they have or have not seen a relationship counselor, etc, that part of the story is not reported to the media, thus [young] black women, and others, believe everything just goes back to "normal" like magic and all is well again. happy times!

<3 .

According to TMZ's sources, apparently she was the one who began hitting him-- and thus 'started' the violence-- after she read the other woman's long text message, so people are saying that a misdemeanor is somehow warranted. He has been charged with a felony assault. But this would negate the fact that Rihanna has recently brought up previous instances of domestic violence by this man. One can't help but wonder whose behavior she's modeling...

Also, Chris Brown wants the felony assault charge to be dropped to a misdemeanor... with no jail time. And it looks like he may get it, if his celebrity lawyer has anything to do with it.

It's just... I dunno. The media is rightly having a field day with it: 'Why are you still with this man?? He's only going to beat you in the future, especially if he doesn't seek help.'

He's all but admitted to it by now, so I'm expecting a plea deal or something.
