Radio again tonight, kittens. It's a permanent gig for now, the co-hosting deal. I love it already and I can't imagine I'll tire of it soon. As my lovely frere put it to me, "You've been doing this all your life, in one capacity or another. Just be yourself."

In any case, the theme tonight is summer songs. I've crafted the perfect little compilation that's sure to get you bopping. Listen online at ckcufm.com or at 93.1 FM in Ottawah-wah. Stoked!

xoxox.

PS: How are you? Yes, you.

do you two know each other?

So.

There is a sweet boy who does a sweet radio show every Tuesday night at eleven p.m. EDT. And, by some strange stroke of luck, I shall be accompanying him this evening and programming half of the music. You know what that means... a hell of a lot of canindierawk (translation: canadian indie rawk/rock).

The theme may or may not be music to fuck to...

Listen online: http://www.ckcufm.com

Should be grand. Feel free to throw some last minute suggestions my way, if you feel so inspired.

<3.

the place is dead as heaven on a saturday night

'Or maybe memories are like karaoke-- where you realize up on the stage, with all those lyrics scrawling across the screen's bottom, and with everybody clapping at you, that you didn't know even half the lyrics to your all-time favourite song. Only afterwards, when someone else is up on stage humiliating themselves amid the clapping and laughing, do you realize that what you liked most about your favourite song was precisely your ignorance of its full meaning-- and you read more into it than maybe existed in the first place. I think it's better to not know the lyrics to your life.'

I'm going to see Leonard Cohen tonight for the second time in the span of a year. I feel very, very lucky right now.

'Robert Downey Jnr charmingly steals every scene he is in with such likeable ease I’m not sure if I want to be him, be his mate or just plain fuck him with a geek het crush so strong I had to resist the urge to sigh every time he appeared on the screen.' - Edge Trinkets

teehee. The only complaint [which it isn't even, really] I had about the movie was the fact that I could not stop that Buck 65 line [from Blanc-Bec] from running through my head throughout the entire film.

Remember How I Made You Scream

Man, I would just about kill for any copy of Danny Michel and Luke Doucet covering Tom Waits' 'In the Neighbourhood.' Granted, I know it was years ago that they toured together and did it as a duet for an encore, but... someone must have a copy, right? I have the lyrics scribbled down by Luke [to remember them on stage], but they hardly have the same effect.

Why? Because, as the brainchild of the lovely krk, there will be a superb cover songs party in the not-too-distant future!

C'mon... doesn't that sound stellar? A [dance?] party based solely on an amassed collection of weird and wonderful covers of just about any and all songs you could imagine.

Feel free to suggest some of your favourites in the comments. Aww yeah!

Students!

Hello my fellow student-y minded friends. They are offering a wonderful course at Carleton this summer [May-June], but they are currently just shy of enough people being enrolled for it to run. Hence, consider this a somewhat desperate [ha ha] plea for anyone looking to take a summer course. It's a third year women's studies course on activism. The prof is awesome and the reading list makes it look like it will be a barrel of monkeys.

Edit: Got the prof to email me the actual description again:

WOMN 3003 A: Selected Topics on Gender and Women's Studies: ˜Third Wave Feminisms: Monday and Wednesday, 18:05 – 20:55. This seminar explores feminist thought and action which is being called third wave feminism. We will examine readings and cultural products – films, videos, music, ‘zines, websites, etc. – to interrogate what this label means, and how theories and practices intersect in third wave feminism. Students will explore underlying concepts of third wave including generational age, ideological position and historical moment. The course is structured around theory and writings from anthologies including Listen Up, To Be Real, Colonize This!, Manifesta, Third Wave Agenda, Catching A Wave and Turbo Chicks, as well as from key articles that make connections to past feminist movements.

Please pass on to anyone who may be interested. Please!

High Fidelity Blues

This is absolutely priceless and perfect. The fact that it includes Magnolia Electric Co, Okkervil River [even if they spell it horribly wrong] and High Fidelity all in one article? Oh, and did I mention it's about making the perfect mixtape? Oh yes. Amen.

If Shawn can post web comics, so can I, right? Haha. I'm nicer than that, though. I'll just link to it.

Ta-da: Today's Married to the Sea comic is about the geedee Dewey decimal system. It was totally fucking written for me. Well, me and other nerds like me, ha.

I <3 the Dewey decimal system. And yes, I can spit out my favourite call numbers. What's so weird about that?

There isn't much I can do from this far away except this:

Picked Up My Guitar And Made A Chord: A Cheer Up Christine Mix

1. The Boy Least Likely To - I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star
2. The Islands - Jogging Gorgeous Summer
3. Danny Michel - Tennessee Tobacco
4. Peter Bjorn And John - Young Folks

These are all super-duper-happy-fun-pop songs that never fail to make you smile, no matter how miserable life feels at the moment. Enjoy: yousendit links part one and part two.

PS: Muxtape is not really that much fun, what with its twelve song limit and whatnot.
Wouldn't It Be Nice If We Were Older...

This seems to be the conversation I've been having the most often as of late:

'What does your tattoo say?'
'Which one?'
'Uhhh...'

I'm sorry. I'm not a word geek for nothing, I suppose...

I've also been totally nerding out on the Doctor Who lately and loving it. Maybe too much, but c'mon! And thanks to the ever-lovely clockworkboho, I now have a zillion and one Doctor Who songs. Sometimes, I'm spoiled.

And, like everyone else, I cannot express enough how bloody stoked I am for this gorgeous and delicious weather. Everyone's welcome on the balcony anytime. It's not as though I ever step off it from morning to night. Mmm sunshine and tunes and internerding.
